Gulf of Aden mandate approved

The Presidential mandate regarding the prevention of piracy in the Gulf of Aden, Somali territorial waters and the high seas, the Arabian Sea, and adjacent regions has been approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly.

The mandate was submitted to the Speaker of the TBMM with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The mandate states that the aim is to continue cooperation to ensure the safety of Turkish-flagged and Turkish-linked vessels by the Turkish Armed Forces, within the framework of the United Nations Security Council resolutions from 2008-2021 regarding the prevention of piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Aden, Somali territorial waters and the high seas, the Arabian Sea, and adjacent regions, and in accordance with the authorization granted by the TBMM on 10/02/2009 with decision number 934 for one year, which was most recently extended for one year on 17/01/2024 with decision number 1401.
