Gülistan Doku investigation: Tuncay Sonel's testimony to the prosecutor's office revealed

The testimony given to the prosecutor by former governor Tuncay Sonel, who was arrested in the Gülistan Doku investigation, has been obtained. Regarding his phone calls with a dismissed police officer, he first said, "I don't remember," and then stated, "If these calls were made, they were all made to find our missing girl." Sonel rejected the allegations that his son, Mustafa Türkay Sonel, killed Gülistan Doku, calling them "a vile slander and an assassination of character."

Inconsistencies in the testimony of Tuncay Sonel, the governor at the time who was arrested in the investigation into university student Gülistan Doku, who has not been heard from since leaving her dormitory in Tunceli on January 5, 2020, have been reflected in the case file.

HE DENIED THE SIM CARD ALLEGATION

Following the statement by Gökhan Ertok, a dismissed police officer who was later arrested, that the SIM card belonging to Doku was sent to him after some data had been deleted, Sonel rejected this claim.

“IF THE CALLS WERE MADE, THEY WERE ALL TO FIND OUR MISSING GIRL”

Information entered the case file indicating that, as part of the investigation, Sonel had spoken with Gökhan Ertok via multiple phones after Gülistan Doku went missing. In the first part of his testimony, the former governor said he did not remember these calls. However, he subsequently stated, "If these calls were made, they were all made to find our missing girl. Since our Minister of Justice and our Minister of Interior were also calling me constantly, I followed the matter closely by calling personally on those dates for that reason."

“SOMETIMES A PERSON CAN ACT WITH THEIR EMOTIONS IN SUCH SITUATIONS”

Sonel was also asked why the SIM card was sent to the dismissed police officer Gökhan Ertok in an irregular manner. In his response to this question, he said, "When we saw her sister crying and wailing at the governor's office door, and she said, 'We cannot reach the prosecutor's office, we come to you more easily,' we are human too. Sometimes a person can act with their emotions in such situations."

“THE PURPOSE HERE WAS TO PROTECT THE FAMILY”

One of the notable points in the investigation was that Gülistan's boyfriend, Zeinal, and his family stayed at a 5-star hotel in Antalya after she went missing. Regarding this issue, Sonel said, "The purpose here was to protect the family. I did not have any instructions or involvement in this matter in any way."

"HE MAY HAVE GONE TO A CAFE OR TWO, BUT HE DEFINITELY DOES NOT KNOW HIM"

The former governor argued that his son, Mustafa Türkay Sonel, did not know Zeinal Abakarov. He expressed this claim by saying, "He may have gone to a cafe or two, but he definitely does not know him. They might have crossed paths where he worked."

"A VILE SLANDER, AN ASSASSINATION OF CHARACTER"

Rejecting the allegations that his son killed Gülistan Doku, Sonel used the words, "A vile slander, an assassination of character." Furthermore, regarding Doku's brothers, he said, "I was constantly in contact with her mother and father, especially Aygül Doku, regarding this incident. Why don't her brothers come and go, why don't they show concern? I want these issues to be investigated as well."
