Habertürk TV's decision on Mehmet Akif Ersoy: His new role has been announced

Habertürk TV main news anchor and program host Mehmet Akif Ersoy has been appointed as the channel's Editor-in-Chief.

A high-level appointment has taken place at Habertürk TV, which operates under the Ciner Media Group.

Ciner Media Group Chairman of the Board Kenan Tekdağ announced that Mehmet Akif Ersoy has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Habertürk TV.

In his statement, Tekdağ said, "Our colleague Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the esteemed main news anchor, program host, and journalist of our television station, has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Habertürk TV. I wish him great success in his new role."


WHO IS MEHMET AKİF ERSOY?

He began his journalism career in 2009 at the 6 News channel. Between May and December 2010, he served as the Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) representative for TRT Türk; in 2011, he worked first in Kenya and Somalia, and subsequently served as a TRT Türk correspondent in Tripoli (Libya) and Sana'a (Yemen), and as a representative in Damascus (Syria) and Erbil (Iraq).

The final interview he conducted with Muammar Gaddafi in Libya before his death received widespread attention in the world press as a journalistic achievement. During his tenure as TRT's Cairo (Egypt) representative, which began in January 2012, he covered Israel's Operation Pillar of Defense from Gaza.

In the same year, he covered the Syrian civil war in Aleppo. Ersoy, who continued his role in Cairo for 2 years, returned to Turkey a few months after the military coup. In 2013, he served as the deputy coordinator of the TRT Arabic channel. In July 2014, while serving as Deputy Regional Director of TRT Istanbul, he traveled to Gaza, which was under intense Israeli bombardment, and conducted live broadcasts for about a month for many national news channels in Turkey, in addition to TRT. In 2015, his documentary "Zenga Zenga," which chronicled the fall of Gaddafi, was broadcast on TRT. Later that year, he was appointed as an Advisor to the President of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, responsible for relations with the Middle East and the Islamic world. In addition to his professional career, he has given numerous lectures and seminars at universities and think tanks. Ersoy, who has a book titled "Tunnel - Living in Gaza" in which he recounts his memories of the Palestinian issue and the Gaza war,

also continued to serve as the editor-in-chief of the "Foreign Policy" magazine. He had been working at Habertürk TV since April 2018.
