Action has been taken for new measures regarding the safety of deputies in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly hall.
According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, it has been learned that measures will be taken against the hard surfaces of the stairs next to and behind the podium where deputies deliver their speeches.
In the scuffles that occasionally occur between deputies in the General Assembly hall, the possibility of those who fall to the ground hitting their heads poses a major risk.
In the TBMM General Assembly, which is frequently the scene of fights, chaos most recently erupted during the Can Atalay session. In the scuffle that broke out after AKP member Alpay Özalan attacked TİP member Ahmet Şık, some deputies fell to the floor and suffered cuts to their eyebrows.
WORK HAS BEGUN FOR THE ARRANGEMENT
Last year, Saadet Party member Hasan Bitmez suffered a heart attack while speaking at the podium and fell to the floor; his head hit the hard surface where the stairs are located, and he subsequently lost his life. The risks regarding the hard surface around the podium in the General Assembly were also conveyed to the Parliamentary administration, and it was requested that measures be taken. Upon the requests received, the Parliamentary administration conducted an on-site inspection of the parts that pose a risk in the TBMM General Assembly. In this direction, work has been initiated to make an arrangement that will ensure safety without compromising aesthetics.
