Kocabıyık had been expelled from the AKP for reacting to the arrest of CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. This time, Hüseyin Kocabıyık used his social media account to harshly criticize the broadcast ban imposed by RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin.
Here is that post by Kocabıyık:
I used to take RTÜK President Ebubekir seriously and liked him. But I have been watching him for a long time and now I have a firm conviction: this man is a militant who causes the greatest harm to this country, who is unconscious, thoughtless, does not know what democracy is, and is unaware of the rule of law.
He has turned an institution like RTÜK, which is supposed to regulate broadcasting freedom, into an authoritarian management apparatus that usurps the public's right to receive information. His latest act has been to black out opposition channels. We did not even see such a wrong during military coup periods. Moreover, this friend does not even think about the developments that this ignorance has caused or will cause.
He has already branded the AK Party as a “prohibitive party.” The public will be provoked and rallies will be even more crowded. Moreover, no AK Party member can say, “Friend, this is wrong, it harms this party.” While 1 million people watch rallies on TV, now 10 million will watch them on the internet. Ebubekir, I am addressing you: Do you have no sense at all? Whoever is giving you instructions, can they still not see that they are mistaken and doing wrong? You are blacking out TVs, but how will you prevent Ümit Özdağ's hunger strike? How will you disperse those crowds? With a ban? Where were you raised, who raised you? What is this about acting like an agent of influence that harms Turkey? What kind of mindset is this in the age of algorithms?
I am someone who had a share in the establishment of that RTÜK. I am watching your lawlessness and enmity toward the people with astonishment.
Zahit Akman also served as president at RTÜK. He did not engage in any of the partisanship you are doing. He was a more conservative man than you, but he was civilized, fair, just, and honest.
I heard now that crowds will come to RTÜK this evening. Come on then, if what you are doing is right, go out in front of the crowd and defend your decision!
