The election for the general chairmanship was held on the first day of the Republican People's Party’s 38th Ordinary Congress.
In the second round of the congress, where 1,367 delegates from 81 provinces cast their votes, Özgür Özel, the candidate of the change-seekers, received 812 votes and became the new leader of the CHP. Kılıçdaroğlu received 536 votes.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who has been criticizing Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu harshly since the presidential elections, made a post on his social media account regarding the CHP congress.
Altaylı, who attacked Kılıçdaroğlu, used the following expressions;
“I wish you had resigned with dignity the day after the election and left honorably. I wish you had used the second chance that came your way yesterday and withdrawn from the race with dignity at the end of the first round, leaving to applause. I wish you had at least managed to set a good example on your way out. I wish you had gathered three or five real patriots around you instead of a group of incompetent, ambitious, some immoral, and some stupid people; I wish you had mentioned Atatürk's name before the congress as well. I wish that even if you could not become President, you had at least not disgraced yourself.”
