Has Bora Kaplan become a whistleblower? Statement from his lawyers

Some social media accounts have alleged that Bora Kaplan gave testimony to a specially assigned team and became a whistleblower, that his statement included many political names, that following these confessions the judge overseeing the money laundering case was replaced and trustees were removed, and that Kaplan would be released during Eid al-Adha and settle abroad.

Making a statement today regarding the claims in question, Kaplan's lawyers reported that the decision to appoint trustees to the companies and the judicial control measures applied to the defendants in the money laundering case have not been lifted, and stated the following:

“In this context, there is also a judicial control decision regarding Cener Binnur Kara, who is mentioned in the posts, and it is not possible for her to travel abroad under any circumstances.

Furthermore, the operation conducted against the individual named Muhammed Kaplan has no connection to Bora Kaplan, and no demands have been made of him regarding Bora Kaplan.”

Emphasizing that Bora Kaplan has not made any changes to his statements or provided additional testimony, the lawyers said, “It is expected that the local court's unlawful decision will be overturned by higher judicial authorities.”

The lawyers noted that similar posts were made in March and that a rebuttal text sent at that time was published on the relevant platform, while making the following assessment regarding the source and reason for the claims:

“These news reports and posts absolutely do not reflect the truth and consist of futile efforts made by accounts linked to and affiliated with FETÖ in order to derail the legal struggle of our client, who is fighting against gross injustices.

Indeed, the unreal posts in question are proof of how our client Bora Kaplan's freedom was unlawfully taken from him through certain FETÖ-style maneuvers.

Necessary legal proceedings will be initiated against the owners and officials of the social media accounts that made these unreal posts.”
