Journalist Özlem Gürses was placed under house arrest after being detained on the evening of Friday, December 20, 2024, following the statements she made during a live broadcast on her YouTube channel, TV OZ: "As you can see, the ISIS structure, that is, the TSK-SNA, has made small gains in some regions controlled by the Kurds."
An investigation was launched into Gürses by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on Friday evening. Gürses was accused of 'insulting the institutions and organs of the state' and 'publicly disseminating misleading information.'
Gürses, who was in the capital Ankara for an awards ceremony, was detained on the evening of Friday, December 20, 2024, and brought to Istanbul during the night. She was then taken to the Çağlayan Courthouse on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Gürses continued her statement by saying, "I definitely did not want to, and did not intend to, portray the TSK as if it were connected to a terrorist organization. I do not accept the accusations leveled against me. I am also very sorry for the misunderstanding."
