Havvanur Yurtsever elected as HSK member

Havvanur Yurtsever has been elected as a member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors.

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly held an election for a member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) from among law professors and lawyers.

Havvanur Yurtsever, İsmail Ergüneş, and Mustafa Naim Yağcı participated in the election. In the first round of voting, in which 306 deputies participated, Yurtsever received 245 votes, Ergüneş 22, and Yağcı 24. 15 votes were declared invalid. 

In the second round of voting, in which 303 deputies cast their votes, Yurtsever received 191 votes, Ergüneş 65, and Yağcı 36. 11 votes were declared invalid. In the third round of voting, where Havvanur Yurtsever and İsmail Ergüneş competed, Havvanur Yurtsever was elected through a drawing of lots.

31 candidates applied to the Constitutional and Justice Commission for membership in the Council of Judges and Prosecutors. The Constitutional and Justice Commission sent three candidates selected from among these applicants to the TBMM General Assembly.

In the first round of voting, a candidate is required to receive a three-fifths majority, and in the second round, a two-thirds majority. In the third round of voting, the new member is determined by a drawing of lots between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes.
