AKUT founder Nasuh Mahruki has announced his independent candidacy for the Beşiktaş Municipality. Making a statement at a press conference, Mahruki emphasized that his independent candidacy would not split the vote in Beşiktaş, stating, "Either the CHP wins, or I win."

Emphasizing that he has lived in Beşiktaş for generations, Mahruki unveiled his projects against rent-seeking and regarding earthquake preparedness.
During the meeting, Mahruki also answered questions from 12punto. Mahruki stated that he had not conducted a survey in Beşiktaş, but that people were supporting him. In response to our question regarding claims that he might "split the CHP's votes and cause the AKP to win the election in Beşiktaş," Mahruki noted that the CHP has around 70 percent of the vote in Beşiktaş and that it is not the AKP but the MHP that will field a candidate, adding, "In Beşiktaş, either the CHP or Nasuh Mahruki will take this election."
