Özel, who made harsh criticisms directed at Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu without naming him, also targeted Kılıçdaroğlu's press advisor Atakan Sönmez.
Regarding Sönmez, Özel stated, "That disgusting mustache has come and fired our dear friends who have worked in this party for 24 years and have contributed and served us all, without severance pay. When the public reacts, he says 'I will look into it'."

While Özel's “disgusting mustache” remark drew attention, a statement from Sönmez was not long in coming. Speaking to T24, Sönmez said he would not respond to Özel. Sönmez stated, "I am the press advisor to the Chairman of the Republican People's Party. It is out of the question for me to engage in a polemic with a party deputy. I will have no response to this."
