Driver Emre Ali Önder, who caused the death of former national basketball player İlkan Karaman by hitting him in the Datça district of Muğla on the night of September 8, 2024, had been released with judicial control conditions at the first hearing. However, the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office appealed the release decision.
HE HAD BEEN GRANTED RELEASE AT THE FIRST HEARING
Following the indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requesting a prison sentence of 2 to 9 years for the crime of "causing death by conscious negligence," the court panel at the Datça Criminal Court of First Instance decided to release Önder, taking into account the time he had already spent in prison.
Driver Önder had stated during the hearing that he was saddened by the incident and was released with a travel ban and judicial control conditions. However, following reactions on social media and the appeal by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the court issued a new arrest warrant for Önder.
