The incident occurred in the Belkıs neighborhood of Gaziantep's Nizip district. According to allegations, Halil Çağlar went to the home of his wife, who was in the process of divorcing him, and after an argument, drew his weapon and opened fire on his wife Yüksel Çağlar, his brothers-in-law Ahmet and Mehmet Oymak, his 21-year-old daughter Nimet Çağlar, and his sister-in-law Adile Oymak. Yüksel Çağlar and brothers-in-law Ahmet and Mehmet Oymak lost their lives at the scene.
His daughter Nimet Çağlar and sister-in-law Adile Oymak were critically injured. Halil Çağlar, who fled after the incident, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head when he realized he could not escape the police teams pursuing him in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa.
