He had reported the İmamoğlu operation 8 days in advance: 'I shared insider information'

Sinan Burhan, Editor-in-Chief of the Millet News Agency, made a post regarding the part of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's speech in Saraçhane today where he mentioned him.

Özel had announced that the information shared by journalist Sinan Burhan on March 11, in which he claimed as 'insider information' that Ekrem İmamoğlu would be arrested, was conveyed to him via message by the chairman of a political party under the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı).

Announcing that they know the person who sent the message in question, Özel reminded that the information that the arrest would take place before the holiday was also shared by Sinan Burhan.

Making a post on his social media account regarding the issue, Sinan Burhan made the following statement:

"First of all, I would like to state that the information that reached me was insider information. While providing the information, I said that this was a claim in need of explanation and I also expressed my astonishment. As a journalist, it is our duty to convey information from our news sources to the public. There may be points where we disagree with Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mr. Özgür Özel regarding party policies and worldviews. However, I would like to state clearly and definitively that Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu should be able to enter elections and compete. This is a requirement of democracy.

Legal issues and allegations are not an area for me to decide. The allegations of corruption, extortion, bribery, and links to terrorism regarding Mr. İmamoğlu are not my claims, but the judiciary's. Furthermore, CHP deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu stated that they were expecting an arrest regarding Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and that they had decided to hold a primary election. This allegation is a topic also discussed within CHP circles."
