Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel claimed that the authority to shoot down the UAV that reached Ankara rested with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and that Erdoğan did not issue an order for 2 hours.

The response to Özel's claim from the Palace was swift. Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran stated in his remarks, "I advise Mr. Özel to take into account the statements made by our official institutions instead of evaluations containing speculation and disinformation."

The full statement by Duran is as follows:

“The remarks made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel in an interview with a newspaper, attributed to our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the shooting down of a UAV, do not reflect the truth and constitute clear disinformation.

I advise Mr. Özel to take into account the statements made by our official institutions instead of evaluations containing speculation and disinformation.”
