33-year-old Batuhan Bıyıkoğlu, who was found critically injured in his home in Şişli, Istanbul, has passed away at the hospital where he was taken. It was learned that Bıyıkoğlu had previously served as a bodyguard for the family of MHP Kocaeli Deputy and former national football player Saffet Sancaklı.
The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 17:50 in the Eskişehir neighborhood of Şişli. According to the information obtained, Hanife B. entered her son's room after hearing a gunshot and found Bıyıkoğlu shot in the head while sitting on a chair. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the address upon notification.
Bıyıkoğlu, who was taken to Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital in critical condition and unconscious, could not be saved despite the interventions performed there.
During the examination by police teams, it was determined that Bıyıkoğlu had sent a message to his aunt via WhatsApp shortly before the incident. It was reported that the message contained the phrases, "Aunt, it would be good if you came to us, let my father come home from outside, my mother is alone at home with me, support my mother, do not leave her alone, forgive me for any rights I may have over you."
A note containing his phone password was also found during the search of the room. It was learned that the note contained the phrases, "I left a memory for you on the phone, you can watch it. I am sorry, please forgive me," and that a video recording of approximately 4 minutes was discovered on the phone.
The police, who took statements from the family, determined that Bıyıkoğlu worked as a private security guard, had been unemployed for a while, and was living with his family following a divorce process. While his mother, Hanife B., stated that her son had no debts or psychological problems, his father, İlhami B., stated that his son had experienced psychological issues during the divorce process.
Father İlhami B. said that he retired as a police officer in Istanbul in 2016 and owned three licensed pistols, but that the pistol with the serial number filed off used in the incident did not belong to him. The pistol, the shell casing, and the phone were handed over to the crime scene investigation teams for analysis. The investigation is ongoing.
