He had taken home aid supplies meant for earthquake victims: That police chief has suffered a heart attack!

During the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred on February 6, it was alleged that 4th-class Police Chief Yadigar Işık, who was in charge of riot police personnel in the İslahiye district of Gaziantep, had taken aid supplies sent for earthquake victims to his own home using an official bus while returning to Tekirdağ after completing his duty on February 26.

Following the reporting of this situation to his superiors, a search was conducted at Işık's home with permission obtained from the Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

HE HAD BEEN SUSPENDED

During the search, it was determined that there were a generator, a large tent, connection cables, an inflatable mattress, a sleeping bag, a travel bag, a beanie, boots, a raincoat/coat, a small tent, dog food, and electric heaters in the house.

Işık, who was taken into custody, was also suspended from duty. Subsequently, he was released with judicial control conditions by the duty magistrate at the courthouse where he was referred.

Upon the prosecutor's objection, the Duty Criminal Court of Peace issued an arrest warrant. Following the decision, Işık was taken into custody again and was arrested by the court on March 6, 2023.

"EMBEZZLED THE PROPERTY..."

The Tekirdağ 1st High Criminal Court filed a lawsuit against Yadigar Işık, seeking a prison sentence of 5 to 12 years on the charge of 'embezzling property that was transferred to his possession due to his duty or for which he was responsible for protection and supervision.'

Işık was released during the second hearing of the case held on September 28, 2023.

Yadigar Işık most recently lost his life as a result of a heart attack he suffered last night in Sultangazi, Istanbul.
