Dr. Abdülvahit Sözüer, the brother of criminal law expert and academic Prof. Dr. Adem Sözüer—who made headlines for preparing a legal opinion stating that the cancellation of the diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu would be unlawful—has been removed from his position as Head of Public Hospital Services and reassigned as an advisor.
Former Dean of the Istanbul University Faculty of Law and criminal law expert Prof. Adem Sözüer had prepared a scientific opinion regarding the cancellation of the diploma of İmamoğlu, who was arrested on 'corruption' allegations, and in the context of the trial where he is accused of calling YSK members 'fools'.
According to a report by T24, it has emerged that a dismissal took place at the Ministry of Health during this process.
Prof. Sözüer's brother, Dr. Abdülvahit Sözüer, was removed from his post as Head of Public Hospital Services.
It has been alleged that the scientific opinions provided by Adem Sözüer in favor of İmamoğlu were also a factor in the dismissal of Sözüer, who was reassigned to an advisory role.
"IT IS NOT POSSIBLE"
Sözüer, who was alleged to have resigned as İmamoğlu's lawyer following operations conducted as part of an investigation into corruption allegations at the İBB, stated that he only provided a scientific opinion within the scope of the lawsuit and investigation against İmamoğlu, saying, "Since I did not undertake the defense of İmamoğlu, it is out of the question for me to resign from it. Of course, legal services can be provided when necessary. As a requirement of the oath we took when receiving our law school diploma, it is never possible for us to leave those who are subjected to injustice without defense."
