As the incident escalated, A.B.Y. stabbed Şengün in the chest with a knife he was carrying. While Şengün collapsed to the ground covered in blood, the incident was reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center by citizens in the vicinity.
Upon notification, medical teams arrived and determined that Şengün had lost his life. The body of the 33-year-old man was taken to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue following examinations by crime scene investigation teams and the prosecutor.
HE SHOUTED "YOU ARE AN INFIDEL"
Security camera footage of the horrific murder has also emerged. The footage shows an altercation between A.B.Y. and Medet Ferhan Şengün, during which the murder suspect falls to the ground, Şengün, who was hitting him, walks away, and A.B.Y., holding a knife, bends down to pick something up from the ground and follows him.
In his initial statement, it is alleged that the suspect claimed he was walking on Türbe Street when two children around the age of 15 approached him and tried to take his phone, that he then called 112 to report it and the minors fled the scene, and that as he continued walking, he touched the shoulder of the victim, who had no connection to the incident, and shouted, "You are an infidel." He further claimed that Medet Ferhan Şengün replied, "I am not an infidel, my path is the path of God," after which an argument ensued, leading him to pull out the knife in his pocket and kill Şengün.
HE HAD A BIPOLAR DISORDER
On the other hand, it was learned that a missing person report had been filed for the murdered Medet Ferhan Şengün by his brother 10 days ago, and that it was stated Şengün had a bipolar disorder.
