In Şanlıurfa, a request for 6 counts of aggravated life imprisonment has been made against the man whose wife and 5 children lost their lives after the car he was driving fell into an irrigation canal, on charges of "premeditated murder."

The indictment, prepared by the Şanlıurfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and accepted by the 3rd High Criminal Court, included evidence and witness statements.

The indictment stated that the defendant, Hasan Çetin, had previously attempted to burn down his own house where his wife and 5 children were present, had assaulted his wife, and that there was hostility between them.

The indictment noted that HTS records confirmed the defendant had previously scouted the area where the car fell into the canal. It was stated that the car was at a low speed before falling into the canal and that there were no skid marks. It was also mentioned that witness statements confirmed the defendant's clothes were not wet, contradicting his claim that he had exited the car after it fell into the canal.

The indictment emphasized that the fact that the defendant's wife had requested emergency assistance despite the defendant surviving the accident raised contradictions, and it was assessed that the defendant had intentionally left the car's sunroof open before the accident to ensure the vehicle filled with water quickly.

HE USED THE CAR AS A WEDDING CAR 5 MONTHS LATER

The indictment, which noted that the absence of fences only in the section where the car fell near the irrigation canal raised suspicions, emphasized that the defendant's use of the car that had fallen into the canal as a wedding car after getting married 5 months later was not in accordance with the ordinary course of life.

The indictment also included the fact that although the defendant stated in his initial testimony that he set out to go to a horse farm, the farm in question was closed at the time of the incident and there was not even a reservation.

The public prosecutor requested 6 counts of aggravated life imprisonment for the defendant on charges of "premeditated murder against a descendant and a child" for his children, and "premeditated murder against a spouse" for his wife.

On May 6, 2023, in Şanlıurfa, the car with license plate 31 B 7008 driven by Hasan Çetin fell into an irrigation canal, and the bodies of Özlem Çetin and her 5 children were recovered.
