Heavy rainfall, which began to affect the entire Hatay province in the evening hours, intensified as the night progressed. A house located on a hillside in the Hacı Ömer Alpagot neighborhood collapsed due to a landslide, and emergency response teams were dispatched to reach those trapped under the rubble of the destroyed home.
Following the rapid arrival of health, AFAD, fire department, and police teams at the scene, initial reports indicate that three people were rescued alive from the rubble. It was reported that the lifeless body of one person was recovered during the operations. It was also stated that another person remains under the rubble and that rescue teams are working without interruption.
Due to the impact of the flooding in Hatay, disruptions also occurred in urban and intercity transportation. The Reyhanlı-Antakya highway, the Narlıca Junction, the Orhanlı section of the Antakya-Samandağ road, the Kavaslı neighborhood underpass, and the Kisecik EXPO road were temporarily closed to traffic. It was noted that teams are continuing water drainage and cleanup efforts to reopen the roads to traffic.
While teams from the State Hydraulic Works, the Regional Directorate of Highways, and the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality continue their interventions in the region to address the negative impacts, a warning was issued that although the intensity of the rainfall has decreased following the disaster, citizens should remain cautious.
