A significant change has taken place in the senior management staff of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Prof. Dr. Volkan Demir, who left his post as CHP Deputy Chairman, has been appointed as the Acting Secretary General of the IMM.
In a statement issued by the IMM Human Resources Branch Directorate, it was stated: “Mr. Prof. Dr. Volkan Demir has been appointed to the position of Acting Secretary General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. We wish him success in his new role.”
Volkan Demir graduated from the Department of Economics at Marmara University in 1997. Having completed his master's and doctoral studies at the same university, Demir has held positions in many fields throughout his career, including data applications, free zones, tax accounting, capital markets, stock exchanges, and international reporting.
The seat, which became vacant following the departure of the previous secretary general, Can Akın Çağlar, after he was detained and subsequently released as part of a corruption investigation targeting the IMM, has been handed over to Volkan Demir.
Prior to the 21st Extraordinary Congress of the CHP held on April 6, Demir was not nominated for membership in the Central Executive Board (MYK) because he was set to move to a high-level position at the IMM, and he had resigned from his post as deputy chairman.
