According to a report by The New York Times citing two Iranians familiar with the investigation, Iran has arrested more than 20 people suspected of being linked to the claim that Ismail Haniyeh was killed by Israel in Tehran.

According to the report, those arrested include high-ranking Iranian intelligence officers, military officials, and staff at the guesthouse operated by the Revolutionary Guards. Iranians fear that a major security breach among high-level officials made the assassination possible.
The intensity of the reaction to Haniyeh's killing underscores how devastating a security failure this is for the Iranian administration, given that the assassination took place in a highly protected compound in the country's capital, just hours after the inauguration ceremony of the country's new president.

The Telegraph had previously reported that Mossad received help from Iranian security agents to plant explosives in the guesthouse and then detonate them remotely, but a Hamas official in Iran told the news outlet Al-Araby Al Jadeed that Haniyeh was targeted by an air-dropped projectile.
