High school building tilts during demolition in İzmir
A 6-story high school building in İzmir's Karabağlar district, which had been vacated due to being earthquake-vulnerable, tilted during demolition. Three nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

During the demolition of the 6-story İTO Foundation Süleyman Taştekin High School in the Karabağlar district, which was vacated last March by the decision of the İzmir Governor's Office due to being earthquake-vulnerable, two floors tilted to the side.
Residents living in buildings near the high school experienced panic due to the loud noise they heard, and the situation was reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center by citizens. While police teams dispatched to the address secured the perimeter, authorities decided to evacuate 3 apartment buildings located near the school.
Şeyda Adalı, who was evacuated from the apartment building where she resides after the high school building tilted during the demolition, stated that they had been worried for some time, saying, "Today, they finally started demolishing from the middle, and the building tilted over. We have a 90-year-old mother. She has Alzheimer's and does not want to stay on the street; she wants to go into her home."

Reyhan Engin, who works at a nearby health center and whose home is also close to the building being demolished, said, "We were shaken by a loud noise, and I saw it coming directly toward my house. We went outside; I don't remember anything out of fear. I have a disabled child coming home from work. Where am I going to stay?"
While the anxious wait of the citizens who were forced to leave their homes continues, demolition work on the two tilted floors of the school is ongoing.
