A historic day for the CHP: Voting for the primary election has begun

The Republican People's Party (CHP) is holding its primary election today to determine its presidential candidate. Citizens will be able to cast their votes at 5,600 ballot boxes set up across the country.

ALL CITIZENS GRANTED THE RIGHT TO VOTE

Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in an operation conducted at his home on the morning of March 19, a new decision was made regarding the primary election, which was initially intended only for CHP members. With this change, citizens who are not CHP members will also be able to go to the polls and vote.

TWO SEPARATE BALLOT BOX SYSTEMS WILL BE USED

Citizens arriving to vote will encounter two different types of ballot boxes. While CHP members will vote in internal party ballot boxes, citizens who are not members of the party will be able to cast their votes in boxes designated as "solidarity ballot boxes."

The ballot boxes have been set up in CHP provincial and district headquarters, municipal cultural centers, and sports halls across 81 provinces. Citizens can find out which polling station they will vote at by visiting onsecim.chp.org.tr.

VOTING WILL BE OPEN UNTIL 17:00

In an announcement regarding the voting process, the CHP stated the following:

"We invite all our citizens to the polls between 08:00 and 17:00 to uphold the national will. You can vote regardless of whether you are a party member or not."

CALL TO THE POLLS FROM İMAMOĞLU

Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is the sole candidate in the election and remains in detention, shared the following message on his social media account regarding the process:

"I invite all my fellow party members to the polls without fail. Furthermore, in addition to the ballot boxes for our party members across Turkey, ballot boxes have also been set up for all our citizens. I invite everyone to be a part of this enthusiasm for democracy."
