Teams affiliated with the Aydın Provincial Gendarmerie Command took action as part of efforts to protect cultural assets around the ancient cities of Piginda and Bargasa in the Bozdoğan district. An operation was carried out at the residence of 55-year-old M.G. in the rural Yazıkent neighborhood, where illegal excavations were allegedly being conducted.
During the search at the address, a total of 11 bronze coins, 2 archaeological objects, a grain grinding stone, a column fragment, and a stone trough, all estimated to date back to the Roman period, were seized. The Gendarmerie confiscated these objects, which are classified as historical artifacts, and placed them under protection.
While M.G. was taken into custody as part of the operation, it was learned that the suspect's processing is continuing at the district gendarmerie command. Authorities stated that similar operations targeting the historical heritage in the region will continue.
