With the end of the Ramadan Feast holiday and the school break, combined with heavy rainfall on the first workday of the week, traffic in Istanbul has come to a virtual standstill. Traffic density in the city exceeded 70 percent during the morning hours.

The Ramadan Feast holiday and the school break have ended, and millions of Istanbul residents have hit the road for the first workday of the week. However, the post-holiday traffic was gridlocked not only due to the return rush but also because of the impact of heavy rainfall.
According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Traffic Density Map, traffic density was measured at 71 percent as of 07:57 on Monday, April 15. It was observed that there was significant congestion on the roads even during the early hours due to the rain.
SCHOOLS HAVE REOPENED
With the end of the holiday, both students have begun returning to their schools and employees to their jobs. Density was observed particularly on main arteries, bridge connections, and public transport hubs. Long queues of vehicles formed at many points on both the European and Anatolian sides from the early hours of the morning.
RAIN FURTHER INCREASED TRAFFIC
The heavy rainfall that was effective in the morning hours caused drivers to proceed with caution, while minor accidents that occurred in some regions further intensified the traffic.
