On the evening of April 9, in the Kızkalesi neighborhood of Mersin's Erdemli district, a citizen named İrfan Nergiz noticed that the apartment building's stairwell lights were off upon arriving home. When he entered his apartment, he found his door open and the interior doors broken. Realizing that his home had been burglarized, Nergiz called the 112 Emergency Call Center to report the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, police teams determined that a total of 12 apartments in the same building had been burglarized.
THIEVES BROKE BALCONY WINDOWS
Initial investigations revealed that the thieves entered some apartments by breaking balcony windows and transported the stolen items through the balconies. The apartments targeted by the thieves included the residence of Erdal Sanlı, Honorary Deputy First President of the Court of Cassation.
IDENTIFICATION THROUGH CAMERAS
Police teams examined security camera footage related to the incident. The suspects, who were seen entering and leaving the building and scouting the area, were identified through security cameras. The moments when the thieves left the building with the stolen items were also recorded by the cameras. The suspects, whose descriptions and identities were determined—M.Ş. (21), his girlfriend S.K. (22), and two other suspects—were apprehended in a simultaneous operation by the Erdemli police.
THEY STOLE AIR CONDITIONERS AND TELEVISIONS
During police questioning, it was revealed that the suspects had dismantled the motors of refrigerators they found difficult to carry, and had also stolen items such as microwave ovens, electric water dispensers, beds, air conditioners, and televisions. The locations where the stolen goods were sold were also identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
Following the burglary, Erdal Sanlı, Honorary Deputy First President of the Court of Cassation, who traveled from Ankara to Mersin, made statements regarding the condition of his summer apartment. Stating that their home in Kızkalesi, where they have spent their vacations for 40 years, was in ruins, Sanlı said, "Items were scattered, and we noticed that some had been stolen. They broke the doors of all our neighbors in the building and entered the homes. The houses are in complete ruins."
After their processing at the police station, burglary suspects M.Ş. and S.K. were referred to the duty magistrate and arrested. The other two suspects, C.S. and S.D., were released under judicial control conditions. The investigation into the incident continues.
