Final-year students E.A., A.K., and B.K., who attend the Amasya Borsa Istanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, were sent to a hotel in Antalya for their internship. However, the allegation that Necmi K., who worked as a chef at the hotel, harassed the students throughout the summer changed the course of events. According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the Amasya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation after the incident came to light and took the students' statements.
'MY DAUGHTER IS RECEIVING PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT'
Ayşe K., the mother of one of the victims, A.K., described the trauma her daughter experienced in a statement to Cumhuriyet:
"My daughter said that the chef at the hotel touched her and made her uncomfortable. When I reported the situation to the school, I was told, 'The children misunderstood, don't worry.' Now my daughter is receiving psychological support."
'THEY WERE SILENCED THROUGH THREATS AND PRESSURE'
A.A., the father of E.A., one of the students who was a victim of harassment, criticized the trauma his daughter went through and the attitude of the school administration, stating the following:
"A teacher named Lütfullah Aksu threatened my child, saying, 'Don't make a sound, or I will strangle you.' My daughter has had eight crises and is on medication. When I went to the school principal, İbrahim Şimşek, he tried to cover up the incident by saying, 'There is nothing important, these are just children.'"
A.A. stated that the teacher in charge of the internship, Ahmet Ünlü, displayed a similar attitude, adding, "They used expressions like 'they have boyfriends, they are being unchaste' to smear the children."
'THERE WAS HARASSMENT THREE YEARS AGO AS WELL'
Following these events, it was revealed that one of the female students had experienced a similar incident of harassment at the school's practice hotel three years ago. It is alleged that the deputy principal at the time, Lütfullah Aksu, tried to silence the victimized student by saying, "Nothing will come of this, your reputation will be ruined."
LAWSUITS CONTINUE AGAINST THE DISMISSED PRINCIPAL
It was learned that the former school principal, Yusuf M., who came to the agenda with harassment allegations, was dismissed last year following a student's harassment complaint and retired after being appointed as a teacher to another school. It was reported that the harassment lawsuit filed against him is still ongoing.
'WE WANT JUSTICE TO BE SERVED'
The victimized families stated that they have filed complaints against the school administration and the teachers in charge, whom they accuse of covering up the events, saying, "For the safety of our children, we want these incidents to be clarified and those responsible to be punished."
