Horror at high school: Student brings gun to school and kills classmate

In Karaman, a high school student shot and killed a fellow student at the same school. The assailant, a high school student identified as A.G., was taken into custody following the incident. The Ministry announced that it would intervene in the legal proceedings.

A horrific incident took place at the Karaman Hakkı Teke Sports High School, located in the Urgan neighborhood of Karaman.

According to the information obtained, at 09:45, A.G. (17) and Mehmet Eren Parlak (17), both reported to be 11th-grade students, began arguing while they were in the sports hall on the school campus. As the argument escalated into a fight, A.G. fired 3 shots at Mehmet Eren Parlak with a handgun he had brought to school in his bag, hitting him in the chest and hand in front of teachers and other students. Parlak, who collapsed to the ground covered in blood, was critically injured.

Upon notification, health and numerous police teams were dispatched to the scene. Following the intervention of the medical teams at the scene, the injured youth was taken by ambulance to the Karaman Training and Research Hospital.

THE YOUNG BOY LOST HIS LIFE

Despite all interventions, Mehmet Eren Parlak could not be saved and lost his life. A.G., who was taken into custody by the police along with the handgun after the incident, was taken to the Police Department after undergoing a health check at the hospital. The crime scene investigation team conducted an examination inside the sports hall where the incident occurred. Upon hearing about the incident, Provincial Police Chief Mehmet Turhan and Provincial Director of National Education Mehmet Çalışkan also arrived at the school to receive information.

It was learned that Mehmet Eren Parlak, who was killed by his fellow student, was staying at the Karaman Children's Homes (Sevgi Evleri).

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In a statement made by the Ministry of Family and Social Services regarding the killing of high school student Mehmet Eren Parlak, who was under state protection in Karaman, with a handgun, it was stated: "We learned with great sadness today that one of our children under state care in Karaman was subjected to an armed attack by another child at the school where he was receiving education. Our child, who was taken to the hospital after the first intervention at the scene, could not be saved despite all the interventions made there. Our Ministry teams took immediate action the moment the incident occurred. Psychosocial support efforts have been initiated for our children under state care in Karaman and other students affected by the incident at the school. We respectfully announce to the public that, as the Ministry, we will intervene in the legal process. We wish God's mercy upon our child and offer our condolences to our Ministry family. May we have patience."
