Horse mackerel replaces anchovy in the Black Sea
Coastal fishermen who set sail in Sinop are smiling with their horse mackerel catch. With the end of the anchovy season, horse mackerel is now awaiting buyers at fish markets for 25 liras per kilogram.

In Sinop, fishermen who did not find what they hoped for with bonito are experiencing one of the most abundant seasons in recent years, as anchovies unexpectedly appeared in their nets this season.
As the anchovy season nears its end, horse mackerel has begun to fill the fishermen's nets.
Fisherman İbrahim Gündoğdu stated that the 6-month anchovy season is about to end and that it is now the turn of horse mackerel, noting that horse mackerel, which is being caught in large quantities, has begun to replace anchovies at the fish markets.
Stating that the drop in the price of horse mackerel to 25 liras per kilogram indicates that it will be abundant, Gündoğdu added the following:
"Throughout the season, anchovies were sold for between 30 and 50 liras per kilogram. We continued to eat anchovies until January. Compared to previous years, the price of anchovies was very reasonable, and we can say that the public got their fill of fish. Now, the price of the abundantly caught horse mackerel has dropped to 25 liras per kilogram. Last year, horse mackerel was sold for 50 liras per kilogram. Our citizens are satisfied, and we are satisfied. In this economic crisis, I hope our citizens eat plenty of these fish, which are rich in protein and what we call the 'dried beans of the sea'."
