House arrest decision for Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit

Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit, who was detained along with many others as part of an investigation conducted in İzmir and surrounding provinces last week, will be subject to house arrest following his proceedings at the courthouse. Onur Yiğit was detained by security forces on Thursday, June 25, following allegations against public officials in an investigation carried out by the Seferihisar Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

After his statement was taken and he underwent a health check at Seferihisar State Hospital, Mayor Yiğit was sent to the courthouse. Although the prosecutor's office requested his arrest, the court deemed it appropriate to impose house arrest.

As part of the investigation, not only the Balçova Mayor but also Güzelbahçe and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Doğuş Bayır were sent to court with a request for arrest. However, contractor E.A., who was among the suspects, was released following questioning.
