House arrest decision in Üsküdar Municipality investigation
A decision for release under house arrest has been issued for Deputy Mayor Amine Cansu Çelik, who was arrested during the acting mayor election process at Üsküdar Municipality.

Üsküdar Deputy Mayor Amine Cansu Çelik has been granted release under the condition of house arrest. Çelik had been detained prior to the acting mayor election process at the municipality and was arrested on September 5.
According to reports by Halk TV, following a review of Çelik's detention, the release decision was implemented alongside the measure of house arrest.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The process at Üsküdar Municipality began after Sinem Dedetaş, who was elected mayor in the March 31, 2024 local elections, was arrested and subsequently suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior. Following this, an election for an acting mayor was brought to the municipal council's agenda.
In the first election held on August 5, CHP candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya was elected acting mayor in the fourth round with 22 votes. The AKP candidate, Dündar Ziya Gültekin, remained at 18 votes.
Following the AKP's objection regarding irregularities in the election result, the file was taken to the judiciary. After the Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court issued a stay of execution and the Regional Administrative Court rejected the CHP's appeal, it was decided that the election would be repeated.
Following the decision to repeat the election, an operation was conducted targeting some CHP municipal council members. In addition to Amine Cansu Çelik, Mithat Özdemir and Ekrem Baki were detained, while Nihat Doğan and Council President Ali Aral were summoned to provide statements.
