House arrest ordered for CHP Municipal Council Member Mertcan Üreten

CHP Manisa Yunusemre Municipal Council Member Mertcan Üreten has been placed under house arrest for making social media posts identical to the remarks made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek and his family. 

Mertcan Ü., who was detained in Manisa as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, provided his statement via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

HOUSE ARREST ORDERED

Subsequently, the duty magistrate's office ruled that a judicial control measure in the form of "house arrest" be applied to Mertcan Ü.

Similarly, Sinan A., who was detained in Çanakkale due to his own posts, was also placed under a judicial control measure of "house arrest" following his statement. 

WHAT HAPPENED?

An ex officio investigation was launched against İBB Mayor İmamoğlu for "threats" and "targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism" due to remarks he made about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Gürlek and his family during a program; investigations were later initiated against those who made similar posts on social media platforms.
