THOSE IN THE ADS POSE AS FIRE VICTIMS
A fire broke out at the Grand Kartal hotel in Kartalkaya, Bolu, on the night of Tuesday, January 21, and 78 people lost their lives in the incident. It has been determined that following this tragic event, some individuals began using the fire to run illegal betting site advertisements on social media.
In the advertisements posted on the social networking platform Facebook, individuals pose as firefighters who worked at the scene or as citizens affected by the fire.
THE LIE: "I SHOWED IT TO HER BECAUSE I SAVED HER CHILD!"
In the ads where they pose as firefighters, the individuals claim that a woman approached them to ask how she could thank them for saving her child during the fire. They then claim that they showed her an application on their phone and said, "I earn money from here, you should try it too. Let this be my way of thanking you."
They then claim that they downloaded the application themselves and, after losing a little money, went on to win millions, using this narrative to advertise illegal betting sites to defraud citizens.
SCAMMERS WHO CLAIM "I LOST EVERYTHING IN THE FIRE" ARE SELLING HOPE
In some advertisements, these individuals also act as citizens who were trapped in the fire.
The scammers, who fabricate a story about a family staying at the hotel on the day of the fire, claim that their children had to jump from the 5th floor and that they lost all their belongings due to the fire to make the story more pathetic.
Stating that a woman approached them and told them not to cry before showing them the application, the scammers again claim that they initially lost money but later won millions of liras, attempting to defraud citizens in the same manner.
THEY GENERATE ENGAGEMENT WITH FAKE ACCOUNTS
The scammers do not stop at posting from their own social media accounts; they also use other accounts to comment under the posts claiming that they have made money.
The individuals use different accounts to write under their own advertisements that they have earned money thanks to the application and share photos of money.
These advertisements, which literally exploit human conscience, have left those who see them saying, "This is going too far."
