Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that 74,451 motorcycles and mopeds were involved in fatal or injury-causing traffic accidents during the first 8 months of 2024.
Minister Yerlikaya shared data on his social media account regarding motorcycle accidents in the first 8 months and traffic inspections conducted over one week.
Yerlikaya stated, 'In the first eight months of 2024, 74,451 motorcycles and mopeds were involved in fatal or injury-causing traffic accidents, and it was determined that motorcycle and moped drivers were at fault in 65.9 percent of these accidents.'

MORE THAN TWO AND A HALF MILLION VEHICLES INSPECTED IN ONE WEEK
Stating that 2 million 686 thousand 321 vehicles were inspected between September 19-26, Yerlikaya provided information that action was taken against 272 drivers who used unauthorized light or sound warning devices (sirens/flashers) on their vehicles.
Reporting that action was taken against a total of 474,317 drivers, including 126,331 for speeding, 27,988 for missing periodic inspections, 22,201 for not wearing seatbelts, 17,962 for driving without a license, and 10,921 for lacking mandatory financial liability insurance, Yerlikaya noted the following:
'To prevent accidents involving motorcycles, our inspections will continue intensively by our traffic teams as well as our other units, primarily police and gendarmerie public order motorcycle teams. Please be more careful when using motorcycles, strictly follow all traffic rules, and do not neglect to use helmets and protective equipment while riding. Journeys exist to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate you.'
