How many people were detained in the İmamoğlu protests?

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that a total of 1,418 people have been detained since March 19, 2025, in connection with the protests against the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu. Minister Yerlikaya stated that 979 individuals will be referred to judicial authorities.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya has made a new statement regarding those detained during the protests against the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.


Announcing that 1,418 people have been detained to date in the protests held since March 19, 2025, Yerlikaya reported that 979 individuals currently in custody will be referred to judicial authorities under escort.

In addition to his statement, Minister Yerlikaya used the following expressions: 

"There will be no concessions to those who attempt to terrorize the streets, or to those who attack our national and spiritual values and our police officers. I once again condemn those who insulted our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s late mother and his family. Our security forces, with the strength they draw from the law, are protecting the peace and security of our beloved nation 24/7, and will continue to do so."
