HÜDA PAR Batman MP Serkan Ramanlı has demanded that the scholarship amount provided by the General Directorate of Credit and Dormitories (KYK) be increased by at least 50 percent.
Ramanlı explained at a press conference in Parliament that applications for scholarships and loans for the 2024-2025 academic year have begun and that results are expected to be announced within November.
Stating that while inflation is entering a downward trend, scholarships and loans should be calculated above the inflation rate, Ramanlı remarked, "We can easily say that the raise made last year will not be enough to meet this year's needs due to the rising cost of living and financial difficulties.
The amount of the scholarship that students need, especially for transportation and housing, must absolutely not be set below the inflation rate this year and should be increased by at least 50 percent. University education is a costly endeavor. Students who want to study at a university away from home are experiencing serious problems in meeting their basic needs."
Expressing that the Ministry of National Education has initiated an interview process for permanent teachers to be appointed this year, Ramanlı stated that the failure to announce the interview results despite the start of the new academic season is causing serious distress and that the teacher shortage in many schools is waiting to be resolved.
