As part of the espionage investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was taken from Silivri Prison and brought to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan to provide testimony.

It is alleged that in the investigation, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office identified classified military information, foreign passport photos, and organizational connections within the digital materials of Hüseyin Gün, who was arrested on July 4 and is claimed to have links to terrorism.

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the allegation that "activities were carried out in collusion with foreign intelligence services to manipulate the 2019 elections, and the crime of espionage was committed."

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Sabah, Hüseyin Gün has benefited from effective remorse provisions. Gün, who provided nearly 500 pages of testimony, alleged that İmamoğlu and Necati Özkan, who managed the election campaign, had connections with British intelligence.
