What university student F.A. described in a video she shared on her social media account had horrified everyone who saw it. In the video she shared, she claimed she had been sexually assaulted by 2 men she had met and befriended a year earlier, and that she was being threatened with recorded video footage — but after her statement was taken in the presence of a psychologist, it emerged that the young woman had been lying.

SHE HAD CLAIMED TO HAVE BEEN LIVING UNDER THREAT FOR 1 YEAR AND ASKED FOR HELP

Ordu University student F.A. claimed in a video she shared on her social media account in recent days that she had gone to Istanbul with 2 men she had met and befriended a year earlier, along with a female friend, and that after drinking alcohol at a club and passing out, she was taken to a hotel room and sexually assaulted. F.A. alleged that her identity card, wallet, and mobile phone were taken, that videos of her naked and unconscious were recorded, and that she was being threatened with those videos. Stating that fraud had been committed using her personal information, F.A. said she had been living in fear under threat for 1 year and asked for help.

HER STATEMENT WAS TAKEN

University student F.A. (19), who had asked for help through her social media broadcast, was located in Karabük, and after it was determined that the young woman was in the Safranbolu district of Karabük, contact was made with her and her statement was taken by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in the "Forensic Interview Room (AGO)" in the presence of a psychologist. It was learned that in the statement she gave at the prosecutor's office, the young woman said that her will had been manipulated and she had been unwittingly used as an intermediary to defraud certain individuals, that she had received a sum of money in return for this, and that she was filing a complaint against the persons she had mentioned on social media in connection with this incident — but that the other allegations, namely the claims of sexual assault, abduction, blackmail, and threats, did not reflect the truth. It was also learned that in her statement, the young woman indicated she had made a post on social media in order to draw the attention of the relevant authorities so as to convey the extent of the harm she had suffered. Meanwhile, it was learned that the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against F.A. on charges of "defamation and fabricating a crime by sharing false information with the public," while a separate inquiry was initiated regarding the individuals named in the statement in connection with the fraud incident, in order to shed light on that matter.

IT HAD PROMPTED MINISTERS TO ACT

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that contact had been established with F.A. and said: "Working under the coordination of the Karabük Governorship, together with the Karabük Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Provincial Police Directorate, and the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, the necessary security and protection measures for our daughter have been ensured. Our daughter is under the protection of our state. The investigation has been initiated by our Karabük Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, with our daughter's statement being taken at the courthouse in the 'Forensic Interview Room' in the presence of a psychologist. Detailed investigation of the allegations related to the matter is ongoing, and further information will be provided on developments."

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş also made a statement following F.A.'s request for help, saying: "For our daughter F.A., whose situation was reflected on social media on 18.10.2024, the necessary work is being carried out swiftly through our Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, in coordination with our Ministry of Interior and the relevant units. Security and protection measures for our daughter have been ensured. We will take the necessary steps for our daughter to benefit from our appropriate social service models.
