Identities of the deceased and injured in the cable car disaster have been determined
A cable car cabin, estimated to contain 5-6 people, has fallen in the Konyaaltı district of Antalya. Rescue efforts are ongoing for 184 citizens trapped in 25 cabins following the cable car accident, which resulted in 1 death and 7 injuries, including 2 children. One of the moving cable car cabins at the Tünektepe Cable Car and Social Facilities in Antalya has fallen, and it has been learned that there are injured people as teams work to reach the cabin.
One of the cabins on the cable car line, which is located in Antalya's central Konyaaltı district and belongs to ANET, a company of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, fell for an as-yet-unknown reason at the 605-meter-high Tünektepe Cable Car and Social Facilities. Upon reports from bystanders, fire, police, medical, and rescue teams were dispatched to the region.
It was stated that 1 person lost their life in the incident and there were others injured.
While teams continue their efforts to reach the cabin, the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams are evacuating citizens from the cabins in the area near the departure point and taking them to a safe zone.
A citizen who descended from the cable car said they heard an explosion and that the cable car stopped after shaking violently, adding that they did not yet know what had happened.
STATEMENT FROM MUHİTTİN BÖCEK
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, who arrived at the accident site, said in his statement that all units are making efforts to rescue the remaining 2 injured individuals and the citizens in the cabins.
Stating that the Antalya Governor's Office quickly established a crisis center following the incident, Böcek said, "In the unfortunate accident that occurred today at 17:30, 1 of our citizens lost their life, and we have 6 injured, 3 of whom are in serious condition and 3 with normal injuries. Our medical teams are continuing their work rapidly. Our Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, AFAD, Coast Guard Command, Gendarmerie Rescue Team, and UMKE, led by our Antalya Governor's Office, are carrying out operations.
Our Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya called, and our night-vision helicopters are arriving from Bursa and Aydın. We are trying to help in cooperation with our friends at the tourism center. There are currently 184 of our citizens in 25 cabins. We hope to rescue them safely as well. May God help us. The evacuation is being carried out with rope systems and night-vision helicopters. The evacuation of those in the cable car is continuing rapidly, and we hope to rescue them as soon as possible," he said.
IDENTITIES OF THE DECEASED AND THE INJURED DETERMINED
The teams that reached the region determined that Memiş Gümüş (54) had lost his life, and that Özlem Şahin, Kaan Akgün, Fatih Gümüş, Keziban Çapar Gümüş, Lütfullah Kerim Gümüş, Herdem Eyüpoğlu, and Kyrgyz national Akmaral Abdyldaeva were injured.
