The identities of the 8 people who lost their lives on the high-speed passenger ferry that capsized off the coast of Girne while en route from the city of Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to the Taşucu Port in the Silifke district of Mersin have been revealed.

According to information in the Cyprus press, the names of those who lost their lives in the tragedy are as follows:

The ferry named "Filo Jet," which operates between Girne Port and Taşucu Port, began taking on water from its bow shortly after departing from Girne yesterday afternoon. It was stated that the ship capsized while attempting to return to Girne Port.

A total of 241 people were rescued from the ship, which was carrying 267 people in total, including 259 passengers and 8 crew members. While 8 people lost their lives in the accident, it was reported that search and rescue efforts are continuing to reach 18 people.
