Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "When we come to power with the will of our nation, we will make quality education completely free at all levels, from preschool to university. We will guarantee that every child has free access to scientific, democratic, equal, accessible, innovative, contemporary, and public education."
In a message shared from his Presidential Candidate Office account, İmamoğlu drew attention to the rising costs of education with the opening of schools. Promising to ensure free access to scientific, democratic, equal, accessible, innovative, contemporary, and public education if they come to power, İmamoğlu used the following expressions in his message:
"Schools are opening, but unfortunately, anxiety prevails over joy in our families.
Because education costs have increased by 56 percent compared to last year. The cost of a child's school bag, uniform, shoes, stationery, meals, and transportation has reached 31 thousand liras in primary school and 36 thousand liras in high school. Registration fees collected under the name of 'donations,' shuttle fees, and even the most basic needs have become a major burden for families.
This picture turns the right to education into a privilege and our children's dreams into a service that must be purchased by their families.
Let this be our promise to families, but most of all to our children, who are the future of our country.
When we come to power with the will of our nation, we will make quality education completely free at all levels, from preschool to university.
We will guarantee that every child has free access to scientific, democratic, equal, accessible, innovative, contemporary, and public education. We will create special budgets for the basic needs of our schools and students. Because our children's dreams are not a service for sale, but the guarantee of our future."
