The X account of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held in custody at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, has also been blocked.

Making a statement regarding the matter from a new account opened in his name, İmamoğlu explained the entire process that has taken place over the last month and a half. İmamoğlu said, "First they took away my freedom, now they are trying to silence my voice."

In the entirety of his statement, İmamoğlu used the following expressions:

'THESE ARE NOT ACTS OF JUSTICE, BUT ACTS OF OPPRESSION'

"First they took away my freedom, now they are trying to silence my voice. On May 8, access to my official X account, followed by approximately ten million people, was blocked in Turkey by a court order. This is an attack not only on my digital freedom but also on the right of millions of people to access information.

According to the court order, my posts 'disrupt public order.' On the contrary, my words are aimed at building a fair, inclusive, and democratic public order that respects rights, freedoms, and human dignity. Whether it is the cancellation of my university diploma or the baseless accusations attempting to associate me with bribery, organized crime, or terrorism, this campaign of judicial harassment will not intimidate me. These are not acts of justice, but acts of oppression.

Like many journalists, writers, and public figures in our country, I am also facing this archaic and anti-democratic method of censorship. However, it should be known that these efforts will not be successful. I will raise my voice against injustice and one-man rule. My voice will not be silenced!"

Ekrem İmamoğlu shared his BlueSky account for his posts to be followed.
