In his speech at the Istanbul Nevruz celebrations, İmamoğlu thanked DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları for bringing up the operations targeting the CHP.
Reminding that Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ have been in prison for years, İmamoğlu said, "People who could contribute to this country's justice, peace, prosperity, and future are being kept away from both the nation and their families."
İmamoğlu stated, "I patiently and hopefully wish to meet with everyone in Diyarbakır next year during Nevruz with great enthusiasm and excitement."
The full text of the message shared by İmamoğlu on his social media account is as follows:
"Instead of being able to serve my nation, I am being held in prison unlawfully. Not only me, but other mayors and party chairs are also passing through prisons. Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş and Ms. Figen Yüksekdağ have been kept in prison for years. People who could contribute to this country's justice, peace, prosperity, and future are being kept away from both the nation and their families.
I thank Ms. Tülay Hatimoğulları for voicing the injustice we are experiencing at the Nevruz square in Istanbul, where I could not come together with our nation due to my imprisonment.
I patiently and hopefully wish to meet with everyone in Diyarbakır next year during Nevruz with great enthusiasm and excitement. On this occasion, I wish that with the awakening of spring, we will see free days in every part of our country where we will attain justice, brotherhood, hope, peace, and tranquility. Justice First, Liberty First."
