Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and presidential candidate, appeared in court for the third time on charges of 'forgery of official documents in a chain' over allegations that his undergraduate diploma is fake. In the trial held in Silivri, a prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months to 8 years and 9 months is being sought for İmamoğlu. The hearing was adjourned until February 16.
Speaking as she left the courthouse, Havva İmamoğlu gave an emotional reaction to the accusations directed at her son, stating, “What has my son done! It is a shame, it is a sin!”
