The Constitutional Court (AYM) ruled that the data interruption during the reporting of the 2019 local elections constituted a violation of rights. CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu made a statement regarding this Constitutional Court decision on his social media account.
In his statement, he said, "Let them know: The voice of the people cannot be silenced. You cannot defy the will of the nation. They will be defeated again... They will be defeated one way or another."
The Constitutional Court ruled that the data interruption by Anadolu Agency (AA) while reporting the 2019 local election results to subscribers constituted a violation of rights. In the individual application filed by KRT Television, the High Court concluded that AA, which cut off the election broadcast, "performed its duty with a delay and was at fault in this respect," and determined that "It is also clear that the approximately 13-hour interruption in the data flow occurred during the most critical stages of the vote count, and that this situation was of a nature that could affect the applicant's broadcasting activities."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu made a statement regarding this Constitutional Court decision on his social media account (@CAOIletisim).
The statement made by İmamoğlu is as follows:
"The March 31, 2019 local elections were the government's first democracy test. That night, when they realized they would lose in Istanbul, they gave instructions to Anadolu Agency, a state institution, to black out the results. Our opponent declared an election they had not won as if they had. When the controversy grew, they tried to portray the blackout as a 'minor technical glitch.'
They knew it wasn't actually that. Now, it has been registered by a court decision. The Constitutional Court ruled that freedom of the press and expression were violated. This decision revealed the helplessness of those who remain desperate in the face of the national will, who see every path as legitimate to win, and who do not even refrain from collapsing state institutions for this cause.
They still haven't learned that the national will must be respected, and they continue to recklessly use the state just for the sake of their seats. Because they have never internalized democracy.
They underestimate the social memory of this nation and its commitment to its own will. Let them know: The voice of the people cannot be silenced. You cannot defy the will of the nation. They will be defeated again... They will be defeated one way or another."

O gece İstanbul’da kaybedeceklerini anlayınca devletin kurumu olan Anadolu Ajansı’na sonuçları karartma talimatı verdiler. Rakibimiz, kazanamadığı bir seçimi kazanmış gibi ilan etti.
