İmamoğlu reacts to Boğaziçi arrests over Nureddin Yıldız protest: 'Students have saved this country's honor, dignity, and morality!'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, currently detained at Silivri Prison, has reacted to the detention and arrest decisions imposed on Boğaziçi University students during the protests against Nureddin Yıldız.

The invitation of reactionary figure Nureddin Yıldız, who has made scandalous statements legitimizing violence against women and advocating for child marriage, to Boğaziçi University on May 13 sparked reactions.

Following the students' protest actions, riot police entered the campus and 97 students were detained.

15 people were referred to the courthouse with a request for arrest. While 6 were arrested, 9 were released.

CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison, reacted to the detention and arrest decisions imposed on the Boğaziçi University students.

Addressing the youth, İmamoğlu said, "Dear young people, know that I am always with you. It won't be long, they are leaving; this is their final act of arrogance. The nation is counting the days to give them a powerful lesson in democracy."

The message shared by İmamoğlu is as follows:

"The law, which does not take action against those involved in all kinds of money laundering, those who stab daggers into the heart of the city, and those who live their lives flaunting their dirty dealings in the eyes of the nation, issues arrest warrants at jet speed when it comes to Boğaziçi University students.

"UNIVERSITY STUDENTS HAVE SAVED THIS COUNTRY'S DIGNITY"

University students who stood up against an insolent person, an immoral individual who destroys our social customs, traditions, morality, and family law, have saved this country's honor, dignity, and morality.

"IT WON'T BE LONG, THEY ARE LEAVING"
