A reaction to the arrest decision also came from IMM Mayor İmamoğlu.
Criticizing the arrest of Günel and five others, CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "You continue your malice even on this holy night."
İmamoğlu also criticized the fact that Günel was arrested as part of a file being processed in Istanbul.
Sharing a post from his Presidential Candidate Office's social media account, İmamoğlu stated, "You continue your malice even on this holy night. Our Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel is being held in custody and arrested in Istanbul, 500 km away from his home. Has a 'Turkey Prosecutor's Office' been established without us knowing? Moreover, while arrest should be the exception, today, non-arrest has become the exception."
