Imamoglu's 'new generation organization' outburst: 'The greatest damage has been done to the national will'

In a statement posted on his social media account, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently imprisoned, reacted sharply to the "new generation organization" rhetoric voiced by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Arguing that the government is targeting the elected will by using the power of the judiciary, Imamoglu stated, "It is the end, the conclusion of a government, of a palace regime."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements on his social media account targeting the "new generation organization" rhetoric of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In his post, Imamoglu argued that the ongoing process is damaging democratic politics, using the phrases, "To declare victory with the body by purchasing the soul, to threaten with imprisonment and captivity, to force the elected to kneel and submit."

The IMM Mayor argued that the national will in Turkey has never been so eroded before, claiming that the government is trying to achieve through the state's judicial mechanisms the results it could not obtain in the elections.

Increasing the intensity of his political criticism in his post, Imamoglu described the developments as "a picture pointing to the final period of the government."

Imamoglu stated, "To shout about victory by using the power of the state through judicial branches when you cannot win at the ballot box, in order to protect your power against the Turkish nation, is the end, the conclusion of a government, of a palace regime." he added.

At the end of his statement, addressing those he claims are involved in the process, Imamoglu said, "This nation will never forgive them. Because both the words and the offices belong to the nation. Who are you selling what is not yours to?" he assessed.
